Revenue at pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly in 2025 increased markedly, up 45 percent year over year to nearly $65.2 billion, driven largely by increased sales for its weight-loss Mounjaro and Zepbound drugs. BTN accordingly estimates Lilly's 2025 U.S.-originating air spending increased notably year over year.
Lilly's business travel in 2025 generated about 85,200 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, up 81 percent year over year and more than double its 2023 total. The company has pledged to increase the tracking and reporting by 2030 of its Scope 3 emissions, which include those generated by business travel.
Lilly at the end of 2025 employed about 50,000 people, about 27,000 of whom were employed outside the U.S., and up from about 47,000 one year prior.
The company in 2025 announced it would invest $27 billion to build four new manufacturing facilities in the U.S. over the next five years in response proposed tariffs on pharmaceutical imports by the Trump administration. It subsequently said it would build those facilities in Alabama, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
Lilly this year acquired biopharmaceutical firm Ventyx Biosciences for $1.2 billion and agreed to acquire biotech firm AtaiBeckley for $2.8 billion.
