The pharmaceutical company's global revenue rose 7 percent to $24.6 billion, and its U.S. revenue rose 8 percent to $13.9 billion, driven by sales of new pharmaceutical products. Its marketing, selling and administrative expenses decreased 1 percent to $6.6 billion. There were lower expenses for late-life-cycle products but increased marketing expenses for new products. In May 2018, Lilly agreed to acquire aurka Pharma, and in June 2018, it completed its acquisition of Armo Biosciences. The company's headcount decreased from 40,655 at the end of 2017 to 38,680 at the end of 2018.
