Revenue declined about 2.4 percent to $145.6 billion. Total expenses declined 2.6 percent to $135.6 billion. The company at year-end 2017 had about 180,000 employees, about 77,000 of whom were salaried. One year earlier, GM had 225,000 employees, 90,000 of whom were salaried. GM's car-sharing operation, Maven, expanded to 18 cities in the U.S. and Canada in 2017, and the company is piloting the operation in Australia. The company also rents vehicles on a weekly basis to Uber and Lyft drivers in some U.S. cities; GM in 2016 paid $500 million for a 9 percent ownership stake in Lyft.
