The Convention Industry Council is updating its Accepted Practices Exchange initiative and training program and examining corporate social responsibility educational content, said the meetings industry umbrella organization's interim president and CEO.
Colin Rorrie, who was president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International from 2003 to 2006, took over as CIC head in January. However, Rorrie, who also is an independent consultant for the association industry, said he is not a candidate for the permanent position due to other work obligations. The search for the new head still is in the "development stage," he said.
"CIC has a full agenda of activities, and we also have some refinements and new activities coming online. My goal is to work very closely with the membership and the staff to ensure that we effectively not only maintain our existing programs but also effectively implement these new initiatives," according to Rorrie.
The organization formed two new panels covering green meetings and trade shows for its Apex initiative—designed to create standard industry definitions and templates—and also is looking at education programs to provide information about corporate social responsibility. CIC also is working to make its Certified Meeting Professional program more accessible online, and plans its expansion into Europe.
