United Airlines withdrew a $5 business fare hike

on one-way tickets, according to price watcher FareCompare. J.P. Morgan Securities analyst Jamie Baker said only American and Delta had matched this latest attempt and suggested others "may have objected to the resulting broadening of the overall fare spectrum (high fares higher, but low fares unchanged). Baker noted 21 broad fare increases since 2005 versus 17 failures, and told investors to "look for another attempt in coming weeks."
