The U.S. Senate passed the Pensions Protection Act--including specific relief for U.S. airlines

--before breaking for summer recess, following a similar action by the U.S. House of Representatives. Doug Steenland, CEO of bankrupt Northwest Airlines, called the passage "an important victory for our employees and a key milestone in the restructuring of our company." The legislation still must be signed by President George W. Bush.
