The Department of Transportation plans later this year to propose a requirement for "extra fees to be displayed at all points of sale, not just on airline websites,"
The New York Timesreported, noting support in the travel industry but not among airlines for such a rule. Supporters were seeking a similar measure in consumer protections to be released Wednesday, but nonetheless welcomed those rules which by September will require airlines to display add-on fees on their websites, include fees and taxes in fare advertisements and reimburse for lost bags. The Timesand other media outlets also reported that airlines would be required to limit tarmac time for international flights, pay more for bumping and hold bookings made at least week before departure "at the quoted fare without payment, or offer cancellations without penalty, for at least 24 hours after a reservation is made."
