Procurement
More than twice as many U.K. and European travel management, procurement and financial professionals expect their firms to log more business trips in 2013 than those expecting fewer,
according to results from a Business Travel Show survey. Among 178 respondents, 47 percent said they anticipate more trips next year while 22 percent said they anticipate a lower volume. In terms of spending, 38 percent indicated higher travel budgets in 2012 versus 2011, and 37 percent said they expected higher budgets for 2013. Meanwhile, 17 percent said improving travel program compliance during the past year had been more difficult. "Those who said it had become more challenging pointed to a rise in online booking services, revisions of travel policy, a greater role played by mobile technology and a growing traveler frustration with policy," according to Supply Management, which contributed questions to the Business Travel Show survey. "Cost-cutting programs and the impact of company acquisitions that led to a lack of new corporate policies were also highlighted as drivers." Eighty percent of respondents indicated their organizations have annual travel budgets above £1 million. About 60 percent were from the United Kingdom and 40 percent from other locations in Europe. The Business Travel Show is scheduled for Feb. 5-6, 2013, in London.
