Korean Air and Asiana Airlines face a possible class-action suit sought by plaintiffs who allege the carriers from 2000 through 2007 conspired to increase airfares and fuel surcharges
. Asiana agreed to settle, proposing to pay "$11 million in cash, $10 million in travel vouchers and up to $60,000 in notice and administration costs," according to court-appointed notification firm Kinsella Media. Korean Air, however, "continues to contest the allegations made by the claimants," according to a statement from the carrier. Businesses, travel agents and individuals can be party to the suit, though a U.S. district court in California "must still determine if it will allow the lawsuit to proceed as a class action," according to the litigation site for the case, koreanairpassengercases.com. A fairness hearing is scheduled for June 27. Korean Air in 2007 pleaded guilty to U.S. Department of Justice charges of "fixing wholesale and passenger fares charged for flights from the United States to Korea" between 2000 and 2006.
