Corporations in China spent $7.4 billion on air travel in 2005, ranking the country as the world's fourth largest business travel market
, according to American Express. Amex said only the German, Japanese and U.S. business travel markets are larger. A survey of 200 Chinese and foreign-owned companies indicated that travel and entertainment in China now is the second-largest controllable corporate cost, with meals and entertainment representing 42 percent. Amex also found a 20 percent increase from 2004 in negotiated supplier rates and a 15 percent increase in usage of corporate travel policies. One-third of organizations polled used a travel agency to handle business travel, and a third also anticipated higher T&E expenditures in 2007.
