British Airways asked a mediator to help "avert a potential strike"
stemming from an impasse in contract negotiations with the union representing the carrier's cabin crews. BA said the Transport and General Workers Union threat of a series of 72-hour strikes starting on 29 Jan could disrupt travel plans for "hundreds of thousands of customers."
