AMR Corp. announced a fourth quarter net loss of $340 million

American Airlines parent , much larger than the $69 million loss reported a year earlier. Excluding one-time items, the company's net result was a $214 million loss, including $133 million more in fuel costs. For full-year 2008, AMR lost $2.1 billion--dragged down by a $2.7 billion jump in annual fuel expenses--versus a $504 million net profit in 2007.
