New York and San Francisco will have higher hotel room taxes, effective Jan. 1, 2009

The provision is set to expire in November 2011. In San Francisco, the hotel tax increase equates to $3 per night on a $200 room rate for properties near the city's convention center, and $2 in the rest of the city, according to the Associated Press.
