An increase of $100 in the proposed fee for participation in the federal Registered Traveler initiative is "unwarranted and greatly imperils" the program

, according to a letter to the Department of Homeland Security from the National Business Travel Association. Citing "recent reports" that said federal agencies are considering fees totaling as much as $200, NBTA indicated it was "confounded by the proposal" to include in the total a "screener fee" of $70. "If RT is implemented as originally proposed, we believe the program will indeed reduce the need for additional screener funding," NBTA wrote.
