American Express Company agreed to purchase GE's commercial card and purchasing business unit for $1.1 billion in cash

. The GE Corporate Payment Services unit handled $14 billion in 2007 global purchase volume and currently serves "more than 300 large corporate clients," including parent General Electric Company. Amex expects the transaction to meet all conditions, receive regulatory approval and close by the end of the month.
