AMR Corp. reported a third-quarter net profit of $45 million
American Airlines parent , including such special items as a $432 million gain from its sale of American Beacon Advisors. Excluding one-time items, the company posted a net loss of $360 million, compared with a $215 million profit a year earlier. AMR said it paid $1.1 billion more for fuel "than it would have paid at prevailing prices from the prior-year period."
