AMR Corp. for the third quarter reported its "first profitable quarter, excluding special items, since the third quarter of 2007
American Airlines parent ," according to CEO Gerard Arpey. Inclusive of all one-time items, net income of $143 million was a $500 million improvement from the loss making quarter a year earlier. Passenger revenue increased 15 percent to $5.1 billion while passenger unit revenue and passenger yield each improved by roughly 11 percent.
