Runzheimer released TrueCPM, a patent-pending algorithm that
calculates a cent-per-mile rate based on state-specific elements like gas
prices, insurance rates and types of roads. TrueCPM, for which the
mobile-workforce management firm has a patent pending, is programmed into Runzheimer's
Equo mileage-capture app, and the company updates rates weekly to accommodate
changing gas prices, said Runzheimer senior vice president of business
development Donna Koppensteiner-Reidy. The calculation provides state-government
travel-and-expense managers an alternative to the U.S. Internal Revenue
Service's flat rate of 54
cents per mile, which Koppensteiner-Reidy said is based on nationwide
averages. That means any given organization is over-or underpaying employees
for mileage. TrueCPM is available only for state governments, as those
employees travel primarily within one state.
