Two BlackBerry smartphones were certified for use on MasterCard Worldwide's PayPass system.

MasterCard's authorization of these first two smartcard, near-field communication devices allows banks and carriers to enable payment via SIM-cards in the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Curve 9360, as France Telecom – Orange has done in commercial launches in the United Kingdom and France and in trials in several other European markets. BlackBerry parent Research In Motion vice president Andrew Bocking said, "NFC technology is making smartphones even smarter, and the MasterCard certification is a significant step forward in helping transform the way we use mobile devices for payment."
