American Express Global Commercial Services reported December-quarter travel sales of $4.7 billion,
2 percent more than a year ago,
and full-year 2011 sales of $19.6 billion, 12 percent more than in 2010. GCS
cardholders charged $39.6 billion, 10 percent more than a year ago, with
average per-card spending of $5,661, about 11 percent more than a year ago. Both
figures are based on a total of 7 million cards in use, 100,000 fewer than in
December 2010. For all of 2011, Amex said GCS billings were $154 billion, 16
percent more than 2010, with average basic cardmember spending of $21,898.
