The U.S. Department of Transportation tentatively granted authority to Virgin Atlantic Airways to commence flight operations between any point in the European Union and any point in the United States
, effective 30 March 2008. British Airways last month won similar DOT approval. Neither Virgin nor BA has yet announced specific services for transatlantic routes to or from European cities other than their mutual London base.
