Several U.S. states petitioned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to adopt "global warming regulations for aircraft
." Attorneys general from California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New Mexico and the District of Columbia; Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection; the city of New York; and the South Coast Air Quality Management District asked EPA "to undertake a rule-making procedure under the Clean Air Act" that would "ultimately limit emissions from all aircraft arriving or departing from U.S. airports."
