British Airways for the nine months ending 31 December 2008 posted an after-tax loss of £127 million
(US$184 million) versus a £642 million (US$930 million) profit in the year-earlier period. The airline cited a nearly 50 percent increase in fuel costs, "further economic weakness and the fall in sterling," despite a 6.6 percent increase in passenger revenue.
