Omni Hotels & Resorts disclosed a malware
infection on point-of-sale systems at some of its hotels. A notice sent to
customers on July 11 indicated that the company discovered the malware on May
30 and that it was active on some hotel POS systems between Dec. 23, 2015, and
June 14, 2016. The company has not disclosed specific locations. Payment card
information—including cardholder name, credit/debit card number, security code
and expiration date—may have been compromised. There was no indication of a
breach of reservation or loyalty membership systems. Trump Hotels disclosed its
second malware attack of 2016 in April, and earlier this year a number of
hotels, including Starwood
Hotels & Resorts, Hilton
Worldwide and Hyatt
Hotels Corp., similarly reported compromised
POS systems.
