Airbnb has acquired social payment
provider Tilt. The platform specializes in group payments, enabling users to pool
funds for shared purchases and experiences online. Though the deal price hasn't
been disclosed, Tilt fundraised more than $60 million from investors since it
launched in 2012 and it was last valued in May 2015 at $400 million. The group
element of Tilt fits in well with Airbnb's November launch of Airbnb Trips, for
tours and experiences. The acquisition comes on the heels of Airbnb's buy of Luxury
Retreats earlier this month.
