Global distribution system providers Amadeus and Sabre Travel Network each recently announced new executive appointments within their Americas divisions.
Sabre this week publicly unveiled a combined Americas division under the leadership of senior vice president Jay Jones, who transitioned to the new role during the past two months.
Last week, Amadeus announced former TRX COO Vic Pynn as its senior vice president of the multinational customer group in the Americas, reporting to group executive vice president Dwayne Ingram, who joined the company in July
(BTNonline, Aug. 11, 2008).
Travelport GDS also had a change at the helm of its Americas operations fairly recently. In October, the company named former US Airways sales and marketing executive Travis Christ as president and managing director for the Americas
(BTNonline, Oct. 16, 2008), which consists of all countries in the region, except for Brazil.
At Amadeus, Pynn is responsible for sales and account management for direct corporate clients, large and multinational agencies and online agencies in the United States, Canada and Latin America. He previously served as TRX COO since 2005. According to TRX's third-quarter earnings report, Pynn vacated his executive role on Nov. 12 and "assumed a business development role."
Sabre's Jones previously served as senior vice president of Latin America, the Caribbean and Mexico. His counterpart, former senior vice president of North America Chris Kroeger, now is senior vice president of global accounts and president of the GetThere online booking tool, which he has overseen since February 2008.
Jones also served as the general director of Sabre's Mexican joint venture with AeroMexico and Mexicana airlines, with responsibility for negotiations and marketing activities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Other than at the top spot, there are no immediate plans for further consolidation within the Americas region, Jones said at a media briefing yesterday in New York.
