United Airlines today said it revoked its plan to begin charging $50 for coach passengers to check a second piece of luggage, maintaining its already effective and widely adopted $25 second-bag fee.
United in September became the first legacy competitor to announce it would match Delta Air Lines' $50 second-bag fee. Delta, however, in light of its union with Northwest Airlines, this week said it would align its policies with Northwest and lower the $50 second-bag charge to match the $25 fee charged by Northwest and others
(BTNonline, Sept. 15).
Meanwhile, United today also announced a temporary promotion, ending in January, through which customers can receive a 20 percent discount on the $15 first-bag fee when they pay the fee during online checkin.
