The Lufthansa Group will use leased aircraft
from Airberlin to boost the fleet of its low-cost carrier Eurowings by more
than a third. On March 26, as part of Airberlin's
restructuring, Eurowings will add 35 leased aircraft to its fleet of 90. The
new aircraft will be based in seven German airports, Vienna and Palma de
Mallorca, Spain. Five additional aircraft will go to Austrian Airlines and will
be based out of its Vienna hub. Under the six-year lease, Airberlin will
continue to provide crews and maintenance. The agreement is pending approval
from regulators and the Eurowings and Austrian Airlines supervisory boards.
