The consolidated dollar value of airline ticket sales sold by U.S.-based travel agencies rose 8.6 percent year over year in August to $8 billion, according to the Airlines Reporting Corp. U.S. round-trip tickets averaged $485. Passengers taking a trip, whether on direct or connecting flights, rose 0.9 percent to 25 million. U.S. domestic trips decreased 1.3 percent, and international trips rose 5.6 percent. Electronic miscellaneous document transactions, which indicate sales of ancillary services like upgraded seats, rose 10.8 percent, and EMD sales rose 6 percent to $6.4 million.
