The consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies totaled $7.9 billion in June, a 3.6 percent year-over-year rise, according to Airlines Reporting Corp. The average price for a round-trip ticket for a flight within the U.S. was $502.
The number of passenger trips between one airport and the traveler's destination airport, whether using a direct flight or connecting flights, fell 0.6 percent to 23.7 million. Broken down, trips within the U.S., fell 1.8 percent to 14.9 million while trips that involve at least one airportoutside the U.S. rose 1.7 percent to 8.8 million.
The number of electronic miscellaneous documents, which involve non-ticket transactions like premium seats and other miscellaneous services, rose 12 percent year over year to 99,106, while the dollar value dropped 4.8 percent to $6 million. ARC attributed the increase in transactions and decrease in dollar value to more low-dollar EMDs like upgraded seats and checked luggage. A spokesperson added, "The number of EMDs being issued continues to increase as more airlines offer them via the agency channel and consequently agencies can sell more services using the EMD."
