WestJet passenger revenue increased 8.5 percent year over
year to 941.6 million Canadian dollars in the fourth quarter. Traffic rose 8.6
percent as WestJet increased capacity 5.6 percent, pushing load factor up 2.4
percentage points to 82.6 percent. Yield rose 0.9 percent, and the carrier has
been able to push fares higher as Alberta's economy has recovered. WestJet's
net earnings for the fourth quarter were 48.5 million Canadian dollars, down
12.2 percent year over year. For the full year 2017, WestJet reported earnings
of 283.6 million Canadian dollars, compared with 295.5 million in 2016.
