Air France-KLM passenger revenue grew 2.1
percent year over year in the fourth quarter to 4.9 billion euros. Executives
noted "particularly strong" demand on North American and medium-haul
routes. Traffic increased 3.9 percent, and capacity increased 2.6 percent,
pushing load factor up 1.1 percentage points to 85.9 percent. The carrier
network plans more aggressive capacity growth this year, upping it between 3
percent and 4 percent for its full network and between 6 percent and 7 percent
for its low-cost carrier Transavia. Air France-KLM reported a net loss of 977
million euros for the quarter, down 1.3 billion euros from the fourth quarter
of 2016 due to a one-time expense related to pensions. It reported a net loss
of 274 million euros for the full year, but without the expense, the company
would have had a net profit of 1.2 billion euros for the year, up 363 million
years compared with 2016.
