Lufthansa Group traffic revenue increased 10.9
percent year over year to €5.8 billion during the first quarter. Some of that
growth stemmed from the full
consolidation of Brussels Airlines, but CFO Ulrik Svensson said pricing
also improved during the quarter, and yields for Lufthansa Group passenger airlines
improved for the first time since 2013. Lufthansa reported earnings before
interest and taxes of €25 million for the quarter, compared with a €53 million
loss in the first quarter of 2016. Strength from non-passenger businesses
Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Technik largely drove that turnaround, according
to Svensson.
