Etihad Airways reported flat passenger revenues of $4.9
billion and a net loss of $1.87 billion for 2016. The carrier blamed the loss
on $1.06 billion in aircraft charges due in part to an early phase-out of some
aircraft types and an $808 million hit related largely to its struggling equity
partners Alitalia
and Airberlin.
Etihad Aviation Group chairman Mohamed Mubarak Fadhel Al Mazrouei said the
company is continuing a "full review of our airline equity partnership
strategy." Etihad's traffic in 2016 increased 7.6 percent year over year,
and capacity was up 8.7 percent. Its load factor declined 0.8 percentage points
to 78.6 percent.
