Lufthansa Group carriers have become the first
airlines to implement Amadeus Airport Pay payment solution, a point-of-sale
device that allows travelers to pay for ancillaries at check-in or at the gate with
chip cards and compatible digital wallets. This means passengers who need to
pay for bags, upgrades or ticket exchanges no longer have to do so at Lufthansa
sales desks. The system also enables Lufthansa to pay out compensation to
passengers, such as credits for volunteers who give up their seats for oversold
flights. The capability is live at Munich and Salzburg airports and will be
available at more than 170 airports, including in the U.S., by the end of the
year. Developed with payment technology company Ingenico Group, the device complies
with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
