The National Business Travel Association on Tuesday announced that Amgen senior travel manager Betty Sweetman withdrew her candidacy for NBTA president as of Aug. 1. Citing personal and professional reasons for the withdrawal, Sweetman added, "I remain a staunch supporter of NBTA and have faith in NBTA's leadership."
Sweetman's withdrawal from the race leaves Suzanne Fletcher, director of travel, meetings, food service and fleet transportation for Weyerhaeuser, as the only candidate for president. A direct member for 15 years, Fletcher served on NBTA's board in 1998 and said in her platform statement that she plans to focus on broadening the association's international and legislative presence, as well as expanding NBTA's network of affiliates and industry partners
(BTN, Aug. 1).
NBTA direct members still will have contested elections for the vice presidency, one at-large board seat and a bylaw change at the organization's annual convention and trade show in San Diego, with results to be announced Aug. 17 at a general session.
