JetBlue Announces Newark Service

July 12, 2005 - 12:00 AM ET

JetBlue Airways in October plans to launch service from Newark Liberty International Airport to five destinations in Florida, followed in November by flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico. In addition to its primary base at New York JFK, the carrier also has established a foothold at New York LaGuardia. With today's announcement, JetBlue will have a presence at all three major New York airports.

The first Newark flights start Oct. 5 to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach. Once those services are activated, JetBlue will operate a total of 77 daily flights between the New York metropolitan area and Florida, the most offered by any airline. Service to San Juan is slated to launch Nov. 17. JetBlue said it expects to operate 16 daily departures from Terminal A at Newark Liberty.

Beginning this fall, JetBlue likely will add secondary cities to its network as it takes delivery of new 100-seat Embraer E190 aircraft. The carrier is scheduled to receive seven of the new planes this year as part of a firm order for 100 jets.
