West Sussex, England - The Institute of Travel Management now is accepting registrations for a development program in business travel management. Developed with Oaklands College, the course will lead to a Business & Technology Education Council/Educational Excellence (BTEC/EDEXEL) qualification. A BTEC qualification is recognized throughout the United Kingdom by EDEXEL, a national foundation.

ITM will begin a pilot in September with travel managers who already are members of the organization, and the year-long course will begin in the spring of next year. It will use distance-learning methods and involve a research project within the candidate's own organization.

Two courses will be offered: A certificate course and an award course. Both are divided into five units of four to six weeks, each followed by a two-day residential teaching session. The certificate course, designed for managers involved in decision making and strategy development, includes units on establishing a corporate travel policy, managing corporate travel information and selecting suppliers.

The award course, designed for business travel operations personnel and those new to business travel management, focuses on developing knowledge of business travel products and services, and managing corporate travel information systems.
