Amex Offers Corporate Cardholders Longer Clear Membership

November 06, 2007 - 12:00 AM ET

American Express today announced a partnership with Verified Identity Pass to offer corporate card clients preferred pricing for Clear Registered Traveler memberships. Through the agreement, American Express corporate cardholders still would pay the annual $99.95 fee for Clear cards but would get an additional two months for each membership period.

American Express cardholders cannot purchase Clear memberships with accrued American Express Membership Rewards program points, said vice president of global commercial card marketing and customer experience Shelle Santana.

Clear said it would bring enrollment kiosks to corporate locations when 50 or more Amex cardholders from a single company enroll, down from its standard 200-employee threshold for onsite enrollment.

Santana noted that the deal is a marketing agreement and does not pave the way for implanting Clear utility on American Express cards, or vice versa.

The Clear program promises to speed prescreened travelers through security checkpoints. With one LaGuardia terminal and Denver International Airport coming on board, more than one dozen airports—including those in San Francisco, San Jose, New York, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Orlando—will offer the Registered Traveler program in at least one terminal by year-end.
