Best Western Hotels & Resorts has acquired Sweden
Hotels, making Best Western the largest hotel chain in Sweden with 135
properties. Best Western did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Best Western intends to leverage its own distribution and
marketing power to strengthen Sweden Hotels' ability to work with contracted
corporate business within the Scandanavian market. The deal also enables Best
Western to expand the Best Western Rewards network and grow its new white-label
franchise SureStay Hotel Group.
Best Western Hotels & Resorts Scandinavia CEO Johan
Kukacka said Best Western has "already started the discussion with
individual Sweden Hotels owners regarding the integration and they are excited
about the new opportunities that are being presented.”
Founded in 1977, Sweden Hotels operates on a
similar membership model as Best Western; each member hotel in the portfolio is
privately owned. Sweden Hotels is largely comprised of three- and four-star
business hotels, according to the company's website.
