The average daily rate at U.S. hotels in July increased 5.9 percent year over year to $124.32, according to STR. Occupancy rose 2.3 percent
to 75.3 percent, the highest monthly occupancy ever recorded by STR. July
demand surpassed 116.8 million room nights sold, 4 million more than in July
2014, breaking the all-time record for any month, according to STR senior vice
president for lodging insights Jan Freitag. Record-high occupancy rates
already
have interfered with corporate programs in some markets. Every top 25
market experienced increases in July ADR, led by Los Angeles/Long Beach (12.6
percent to $173.87) and Boston (11.7 percent to $200). Orlando posted the
largest increase in occupancy, up 8.4 percent to 84 percent, while Houston
reported the largest decrease, down 3.9 percent to 70.3 percent.
