U.S. Adds Greece As Visa Waiver Program Member

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security this week said it would accept Greece as a Visa Waiver Program member, enabling its citizens to enter the United States for up to 90 days without a visa.

Greece joins 35 other countries already participating in the Visa Waiver Program—many of which are in the European Union.

Greece has been working with the U.S. for more than two years to coordinate its status as a Visa Waiver Program member, and DHS secretary Janet Napolitano said the country has met U.S. security standards and agreed to more in-depth passenger data sharing.

"I commend our partners in Greece for committing to strong screening and security standards and enhanced information sharing for travel by Greek citizens to the United States as we work together to protect our citizens and strengthen our economies," Napolitano said.
