United Airlines president and CEO Oscar Munoz is recovering from a heart transplant performed Wednesday. "A transplant was considered the preferred treatment and was not the result of a setback in his recovery,” according to a statement from United. The carrier expects him to return to work by the beginning of the second quarter. Munoz became CEO when Jeff Smisek
resigned in September; he then suffered a
heart attack in October, and in November, United had
pegged his return for the first quarter.
