Similar to the deals signed by other Oneworld Alliance airline members, Alaska Airlines has agreed to purchase from sustainable aviation fuel producer Gevo 37 million gallons of SAF per year for five years, the companies announced Wednesday. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.
The agreement falls under the deal signed by Gevo and Oneworld in March in which the alliance’s 14-member airlines agreed to potentially purchase 200 million gallons of SAF per year from Gevo’s future commercial production operations. Other airlines that since have signed agreements with Gevo include American Airlines, Aer Lingus, Finnair and Japan Airlines.
The deal is subject to certain conditions, including Gevo developing, financing and constructing one or more production facilities to produce agreed-upon SAF.
Gevo on July 27 announced its purchase of about 245 acres near Lake Preston, S.D., for its first commercial-scale SAF facility. The company expects to break ground in September, and Gevo noted that the project schedule should allow the company to begin delivery of initial volumes of SAF in 2025.
