IHG Offers Point Redemption At Non-IHG Hotels
InterContinental Hotels Group today announced an expansion of its Priority Club frequent guest program to allow U.S. members to redeem points earned at IHG-brand hotels at non-IHG properties worldwide. In a lodging-industry first, IHG partnered with American Express to issue a debit card that allows Priority Club members to convert points to a cash equivalent that then can be used for free stays at other hotels.
"The program, which is effective July 1, is our response to members' desire for greater flexibility and choice," said IHG senior vice president Steve Sickel. "Priority Club members are our most loyal guests and we want to do what is necessary, including offering them free stays at the competition, to retain that loyalty."
As hotel frequent guest programs have grown in popularity, travel managers have learned that travelers will factor program memberships into booking decisions. By expanding Priority Club's redemption options, IHG has accelerated the trend.
IHG's seven brands include InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express.
