Delta Air Lines is eliminating change fees on international travel out of North America, the carrier announced Wednesday.
The permanent no-change-fee rule applies to all tickets besides Basic Economy fares for travel originating in North America to anywhere in the world, expanding on Delta's announcement earlier this year that it was eliminating the fees for non-Basic Economy tickets within the U.S., including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The no-change-fee rule also applies to Delta tickets on carriers that are Delta's codeshare or joint venture partners. Passengers still will need to pay the difference in fares when new fares are higher.
The policy brings Delta in line with American Airlines, which last month announced expanded its change-fee elimination to cover all non-Basic Economy fares originating in the Americas. United Airlines, which was the first to announce an end to domestic change fees among the three largest U.S. carriers, as of yet has not expanded that to include long-haul international travel.
Delta currently is waiving change fees for all tickets, including Basic Economy fares, for additional flexibility during the Covid-19 pandemic, but that blanket waiver is set to expire for tickets purchased after March 30.
