British Airways workers at London's Heathrow airport have
voted to strike this summer over pay, the BBC has reported.
About 700 members, mostly check-in staff, of both the Unite
and GMB unions are ready to strike, but the dates have not yet been set,
according to the report. Workers must give two weeks' notice to the airline
before carrying out any strike, according
to a Reuters report. The action was due to a 10 percent pay cut imposed
during the pandemic that has not been reinstated.
British Airways, which operates out of terminals three and
five at Heathrow, was "extremely disappointed" with the ballot
results, and said it has plans to cover staff if the strike goes ahead,
according to the BBC report. Still, there could be disruptions as the industry
is already dealing with staff shortages leading to cancellations amid strong
