EmpireCLS' Greening Includes Nitrogen Tires, Carbon Cutback

Norwood, N.J.-based chauffeured transportation company EmpireCLS Worldwide Chauffeured Services last month detailed an environmental sustainability program that includes a partnership with a third-party sustainability solution provider, the use of nitrogen in the tires of the entire fleet to save fuel and providing environmental footprint reports to clients.

A pair of ground transportation companies recently announced changes at the top of their executive teams, as chauffeured transportation company BostonCoach last month named Larry Moulter, formerly president of his own consulting firm and senior advisor to chauffeured transportation company Commonwealth Worldwide, as its president and CEO, while Enterprise Rent-A-Car this month named COO Pamela Nicholson as its president.

Car Rental Demand Softens

Softening demand and fleeting costs continued to challenge car rental companies in the second quarter. While Avis Budget Group saw gains in revenue per transaction and length of rental, demand, particularly from larger corporate accounts, began to decline in May when oil prices increased, said chairman and CEO Ronald Nelson, adding that the company expects demand softening to continue into August. President and COO Robert Salerno said Avis Budget would have "no choice" but to take a hard line in negotiations with commercial accounts and vendors.

Enterprise COO Adds President Title

Enterprise Rent-A-Car today announced the appointment of Pamela Nicholson as the company's president. Nicholson also will continue her role as Enterprise's chief operating officer and as a member of the board of directors of Enterprise's parent company Crawford Group. Donald Ross, Nicholson's predecessor, will continue with the company as vice chairman.

Hertz Cuts Refueling Fees; Other Car Renters To Do So Under Maryland Pact

Hertz Rolls Out Reduced Refueling Charges

Hertz today is launching a new refueling program that reduces the amount charged per gallon for travelers who don't fill up their tanks before returning the car, and offers a discount for travelers who pay for a full tank of gas up front. The program applies to all corporate and some licensed locations in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and St. Thomas.
