Enterprise Rent-A-Car late yesterday announced it had agreed to purchase some assets of bankrupt Advantage Rent-A-Car, including its eight remaining U.S. rental locations, the right to lease its fleet and ownership of Advantage's customer lists and "certain Advantage corporate accounts."

Hertz Global Holdings, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2008 and through the first quarter of 2009, is eliminating more than 4,000 jobs across its business units. The cuts compound a 9 percent reduction in headcount last year through the third quarter, which represented 2,700 jobs. When compared with August 2006, the total cuts will reduce headcount by 32 percent.

Amadeus last month said it has eliminated all paperwork for car rental reservations globally through its Amadeus Cars E-Voucher program. The electronic reservation system facilitates payment and billing between car rental providers and travel agencies and negates the need for travelers to have paper reservations.

Hertz Corp. today announced the launch of the first car-sharing program offered by an international car rental company. Hertz's Connect by Hertz car-sharing system, much like the established models of such suppliers as Zipcar, allows clients to use vehicles on a pay-as-you-go system, booking cars either online or over the telephone for usage as necessary.
