JetBlue To Expand Newark Presence With Boston Service

JetBlue Airways in May 2011 plans to inaugurate service from Boston's Logan International Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport, the carrier said today, less than a week after Southwest Airlines announced it planned a Newark debut.

Only Continental Airlines currently operates nonstop service between the two airports. Continental on Friday agreed to lease 36 slots to Southwest ahead of its planned merger with United Airlines

JetBlue, which currently operates service between Logan and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, plans to add four roundtrip flights between Logan and Newark.

"JetBlue is committed to giving travelers more for less, and that is particularly true for our new route to Newark, which currently has some of the highest airfares in America and no nonstop competition," said Scott Laurence, JetBlue's vice president of network planning, in a statement.

JetBlue current nonstop service from Newark is limited to five destinations in Florida.
